Proprietor Saowarop Srichan
LA-Moon (pronounced “lah-moon”), founded by Saowarop Srichan and her brother Chaichan Srichan, sells Thai-flavored ice cream and other desserts, such as mango and sticky rice. The West Covina-based siblings, which originally hail from Bangkok, Thailand, started LA-Moon (which means “smooth” or “tasty” in Thai, with the letters “LA” highlighted for Los Angeles) with a love of their family recipes and a desire to start their own business. Saowarop honed her cooking skills from family members and bakery school, and has several years’ experience having worked at a Yoshinoya restaurant and at their father’s Thai restaurants in Florida. “Thai CDC gave us the right training on how to start a business,” she says. “If we did it ourselves, it would require a large financial investment on our own.” Saowarop hopes to grow the business to package their ice cream, which includes flavors like coconut, green tea, Thai tea, and mango, for sale in various restaurants and supermarkets. “I started out making ice cream and desserts to family members, who told me it made them happy. I want to bring that happiness to everyone,” she says.
